I've argued and reasoned why we should legislate that gay marriage be allowed. I've tried to demonstrate how short sighted and bigoted those are who campaign against it.
On the same day that North Carolina voted to ban same sex marriage and civil unions and on the same day that the Tories omitted a same sex marriage bill from the Queen's speech in the hope we'll forget about it, I'm abandoning reason in favour of manipulating your emotions...
The awww factor:
Personally I lay a fair part of the blame on the people who followed the ridiculous Welsh Labour party council election advice to give the UK Government a good kicking at the LOCAL council elections last week.
ReplyDeleteThis succeeded in abusing the whole point of having local elections (ie to deliver the best local candidates to deal with local issues).
The official diktat was to give a bloody nose to what is arguably the most pro-gay UK Government ever (including the first ever pro gay marriage supporting British Prime Minister). This plan succeeded and consequently allowed the (non gay marriage supporting) right wing elements of the Tory party to accuse the Cameron led Coalition Government of not focusing enough on core issues such as the economy etc.....hence the gay marriage legislation was dropped.
Try writing to your newly elected local Labour councillor (who defeated the rather good incumbent gay Liberal Democrat councillor), to ascertain what his views are on this issue. If he writes back and states that it is a national (not a local) issue then take him to task for launching his local campaign based on national issues!
I've obviously rattled your cage...?
